- ➤ SOPEC is converting the former Russell’s Riverside Service at 136 Columbus Road into an electric vehicle charging station with four DC fast-charging ports. The site was cleaned up using a $225,183 grant in September and will soon receive federal funding from the CFI program to support EV infrastructure in Athens. Athens County Independent

- ➤ Local band directors from Athens City Schools and Nelsonville-York City Schools marched in the 2026 Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Year's Day under the Michael D. Sewell Memorial Foundation’s project (honoring music educators) and celebrated decades of dedication to music education. Athens County Independent
- ➤ Ohio University researchers are studying a method that uses cured-in-place pipe liners to repair aging pipes without major road excavations + the project, funded by a federal grant, could set a new national standard for pipeline maintenance. WOUB Public Media
- ➤ Athens and OHIO students and Fallout 76 fans are exploring a digital Athens recreated using key landmarks (Hocking River, Court Street, and Peden Stadium) in a new game expansion. Jeff Kuhn of Ohio University says the project teaches game design in classes and will be discussed in a future podcast. Ohio University
