CULTURE NEWS

  • Ohio University’s Global Arts Festival returns March 17–19 to mark 20 years of free cultural exhibits and interactive events. Highlights include concerts, film screenings, and a keynote address by Ghana’s Minister of Tourism and Culture on March 19 at Baker University Center Theater.  Ohio University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OU seniors studying musical theater are getting ready for careers by building portfolios and booking summer auditions. Some plan to pursue Broadway roles while others prepare for alternative paths such as child life specialist work.  The Post
  • Ohio University invites faculty and staff to join preliminary discussions for two funds (the 1804 fund supports curricular innovation while the Konneker fund backs transformative projects) by Feb. 15, with proposals due on March 15 at 4 p.m.  Ohio University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Athens organizations have announced several initiatives this week. The U.S. 33 expansion (from Pleasant Hill Road to Oxley Road) will finish in 2028; National Alliance on Mental Illness training is set for Jan. 16-17 at The Ridges, and transient guest tax and dog license deadlines occur soon.  Athens County Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ohio hockey team swept Cincinnati in two games over the weekend, winning 7-1 on Friday and 9-1 on Saturday. The team’s strong offense and penalty kills boosted them to the No. 1 ranking as they ended the fall semester on a high note & will strengthen their season moving forward.  The Post
  • The Ohio Bobcats women's basketball team won 71-59 against Buffalo on Saturday to remain undefeated in the MAC with a 4-0 start — they will next face the Golden Flashes in Kent on Wednesday.  The Post
  • Ohio's women's basketball team will play Kent State today at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. The team is on a five-game win streak and Kent State (hosting the Welcome Back Student Bash) recently recorded its first MAC win.  The Post
