  • Fanfiction is rising in popularity as fans on Archive of Our Own (with millions of users) enjoy creative storytelling. Local student Mierae Taylor said favorite works, including a popular Harry Potter fic with over 520,000 words, show how detailed narratives inspire readers.  The Post
  • The School of Dance is set to feature a street dance performance titled 'St. James Joy' choreographed by visiting artist Teena Marie Custer at Winterdance on Feb. 13 & Feb. 14 at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium; students spent a week training this innovative piece to broaden their dance skills.  Ohio University

  • WOUB Public Media is cutting its staff + programming as funding cuts affect how it operates, and similar measures are taking place at other public broadcasters nationwide.  The Athens Messenger

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio University Regional Higher Education will host in-person AI workshops this spring to help locals build practical skills at regional campuses. Sessions run Feb. 27 in Lancaster and Chillicothe, March 10 at Eastern, March 12 at Southern, and March 20 at Zanesville, led by Dr. Lisy + Dr. Masri Zada.  Ohio University
  • OHIO University honored its faculty for significant media contributions in 2025, with experts explaining topics from early human history to climate change and health. The university will spotlight more voices in 2026 (emphasizing timely research and public insight).  Ohio University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • OU students recalled Wednesday's 24th Squirrel Appreciation Day as squirrel expert John Koprowski explained that campus squirrels help indicate balanced tree diversity + environmental health on College Green, while Facilities Management reported minimal issues with food waste.  The Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ohio Bobcats won 82-57 against Bowling Green last Wednesday in a MAC game where Bella Ranallo scored 26 points and Bailey Tabeling nearly went perfect. The win improved their record to 6-1, and they will face Toledo this Saturday + local fans can follow the exciting play.  The Post
  • Ohio wrestling will compete against the Northern Illinois Huskies at Victor E. Court Friday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. ET — the Bobcats hope to improve their road record after mixed past meets.  The Post
