ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Jan. 25, a city truck lost traction on snowy Second Street and struck the Good Works’ Sign of Hope building on the Westside with no injuries; on Monday evening a water main broke near Old Peach Ridge Road (blocking access on icy Terrace Drive) and officials urged caution. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hot Box Chicken Fingers and Tots supported Athens County high school students by offering a $2,500 scholarship split equally among five schools; applications closed Jan. 23 and winners will be announced by Feb. 16. The Post
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ohio is launching the Rural Health Transformation Program to expand care in rural communities by enhancing school-based health centers + home visit models and forging partnerships through its new Workforce Pipeline and Patient Health Innovation Hubs. State officials said details are still being worked out. The Post
- ➤ Local leaders and midwives in Southeast Ohio are working to improve access to quality maternity care in counties lacking obstetric services. The effort includes outreach by the OB/GYN Club at Ohio University (which organizes events and training) to bridge gaps in maternal care amid rising challenges. The Post
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Ohio men’s basketball team lost to Akron and will face Kent State Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center as they aim to rebound and boost their MAC hopes. The Post
- ➤ Ohio's women’s basketball team shot 45% from the field and saw strong bench play with Gigi Bower scoring 17 points, but they fell to UMass after being outrebounded; coach Bob Bolden said the team will work on rebounding improvements in future games. The Post
- ➤ Ohio's women's basketball team (12-7) lost to UMass 85-76 today as its bench stepped up when the starting five struggled, and they will travel to Oxford to face Miami (OH) to try to break their two-game losing streak. The Post
