- ➤ After 50 years, the farmers market is launching a campaign to build a permanent pavilion at the Community Center to provide vendors shelter and green space (and unite local partners). - ➤ Local Human Interest staff have shared their favorite bands in a new feature — they highlighted local acts like The Lounge Club, Ready Aim Flowers, and Hourglass to show the talent found on campus and in Athens. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A delay in the paperwork set back the rezoning of Dairy Lane property for housing, nullifying a chance to apply for a $2M grant on March 12. City Council will resume the process on a standard timeline (with readings on March 2, March 16 and a vote on April 6). WOUB Public Media
- ➤ Athens officials and developers are advancing a 27-acre state transfer at The Ridges for mixed-use housing, while City Council must rezone a Dairy Lane site by Mar. 12 for 317 Board homes. The transfer is slated for the second or third quarter, with some units available by 2027. Athens County Independent
- ➤ Governor DeWine awarded $10 million in school bus safety grants to 371 districts on Jan. 22, supporting recommended upgrades like cameras & lane warning systems. Districts including Alexander Local and Berne Union plan to add these features before the next school year. The Post
