ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service is using an economic analysis to help local workforce development professionals guide workers affected by plant closures to short-term training programs that lead to roles at companies like Anduril, Honda and LG battery plant in Appalachian Ohio.  Ohio University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Central Region Humanities Center will host its biennial conference at Ohio University in September to celebrate 250 years of the Declaration of Independence. Faculty and grad students must submit paper proposals by March 20 + decisions will be announced on April 15.  Ohio University
  • The George V. Voinovich School is offering a free online series on workplace behavioral wellness that builds a stronger culture by promoting employee wellbeing; sessions include group case study discussions (with free continuing education credits) and run through May 13. Over 450 participants have already registered.  Ohio University
  • Two Appalachian Ohio teachers have received 2026 Grants in Place through the Ohio Rural Teacher Fellowship program for classroom projects. Desiree Beekman from Scioto Valley and Jennifer Buckler from Western Local Schools will spend up to $2,500 each on spring projects that connect students to local history and economic opportunity.  Ohio University
  • Ohio University will honor Distinguished Professor Sarah Wyatt on Wednesday, March 18 at the Baker University Center Ballroom. The lecture and portrait unveiling begin at 5:30 p.m. with refreshments served at 5 p.m. and registration available online.  Ohio University

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Ohio women’s golf team kicked off its spring season at the Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona, finishing tied for eighth at plus 15. They will next compete at the River Landing Classic in Wallace on March 2-3.  The Post
  • Ohio Women’s Basketball lost to Bowling Green (60-56) in overtime on Thursday, Feb. 26 but clinched a berth in the MAC Tournament after Eastern Michigan’s loss. The team now prepares to earn its first tournament win since 2020-21.  WOUB Public Media
  • Ohio women's basketball will host Bowling Green at The Convo on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bobcats come off a double-overtime loss to Akron, with Tabeling scoring 25 and Jennings scoring 19 in their previous game.  The Post
