  • At the 2024 Nelsonville Music Festival, The Local Honeys performed their Sycamore Session in Nelsonville—featuring Linda Jean Stokley, Montana Hobbs, and additional musicians playing guitar, banjo, and fiddle.   • ATHENS, OH – Maddie Kiefer, a journalism major at Ohio University who will graduate in May, has accepted a Multimedia Journalist position with KPAX-TV in Missoula, Montana — she credits WOUB Public Media for giving her the skills to cover local sports and community stories.  WOUB Public Media
  • The Federal Hocking School Board voted 3-2 on Tuesday to cut seven teacher positions and one fill-in role to save an estimated $529,000 and address a projected deficit over $350,000. The board is working with the union to reassign teachers based on seniority while educators and parents voiced concerns over larger class sizes and plans to combine fourth and fifth grades at Amesville Elementary.  WOUB Public Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ohio University researchers studied how underground thermoplastic piping survives high heat with a 12—24 inch soil cover and designed an underground reservoir system that can store one hour’s water flow to help fight fires.  Ohio University

  • Ohio's football team began spring camp Thursday as new head coach Brian Smith brought in fresh coaches and welcomed returning player Sieh Bangura to build the team for 2025. The team will play a spring game at Peden Stadium on April 19 to keep the tradition alive.  The Post
  • Athens' top wrestlers Garrett Thompson and Jordan Greer traveled to Philadelphia for the NCAA Championships; Thompson — seeded fourth after his strong MAC win and facing a new opponent due to an eligibility ruling — aimed to earn All-American status while Greer, who had narrowly lost a title bout, worked to finish his college career strong.  WOUB Public Media
