- ➤ After four years of work, the $50 million U.S. 50 sewer project in Athens has connected over 1,000 structures and will soon serve 300 to 400 more once AEP connects needed substations — the new system replaces failing septic systems to improve water quality. Some homeowners now face costly connection fees of $7,000 to $20,000 and are filing lawsuits over property damage while officials work to extend hookup deadlines — unclear communication has added to the dispute. - ➤ The Nelsonville Ad-Hoc Advisory Commission met on March 20 to discuss how a one-month gap between the current council ending on Nov. 30 and the new statutory council beginning could leave the city without key leadership.
