EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Angela F. Cooke-Jackson accepted the Elizabeth G. Andersch Award (honoring excellence in teaching and mentorship) at Ohio University on Feb. 25 and gave a lecture on community and identity. She urged students to build strong bonds and share their stories.  Ohio University
  • Lacey Dobson, an Ohio University Eastern education student inspired by Martins Ferry Elementary teachers, gained hands-on field experience to build community ties and now plans to secure a local teaching position after graduating this semester.  Ohio University
  • Hocking College and Sam Jones are hosting Brats, Beer and Boxing to raise funds for the Trimble Promise Scholarship for future graduates. The event will be held at the Arena at Hocking College in Nelsonville on Saturday, April 25 with doors at 5 p.m. and boxing starting at 6 p.m.  Athens County Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A proposed federal bill called the Delivering for Rural Seniors Act will create a three-year pilot program to expand food deliveries to homebound seniors—local food banks say. If passed, the act will help counties including Athens serve seniors who face mobility challenges.  WOUB Public Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ohio (21-12) split a doubleheader with Central Michigan on Saturday. In game one, Ohio won 6-3 with home runs by seniors Belle Hummel and Colleen Bare, while in game two (5-3) fielding troubles led to a loss and coach Jenna Hall said the team is working to improve defense.  The Post
