COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Blue, a playful terrier/lab mix found on McDougal Rd in Millfield, is ready for adoption at the local shelter (call 740-593-5415 to meet him). The dog is known for his friendly play and gentle leash walks.  Athens County Independent
  • ORCA completed designs for a 5,000 sqft visitor center at Baileys Trail System in Chauncey that will include upkeep facilities & commercial tenant spaces. Bidding for construction is slated to begin mid-April as ORCA and the village work to resolve an ownership agreement.  Athens County Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Despite a forecast Level 2 snowstorm, 14 teams will compete in the 24th annual 48-Hour Shootout at Schoonover Center tonight, where students will have 48 hours to write, shoot and edit short films. The event will conclude Sunday at 5 p.m.  Ohio University
  • McDavis Hall, a new 600-bed facility on South Green behind the Front Four, will open this fall for first-year, rising second-year, and upper-class students. Construction remains on track with building turnover scheduled for early May (named for President Emeritus Roderick J. McDavis).  The Post
  • Ohio University will host its seventh annual Giving Day on Wed, Apr. 8, 2026, inviting donors to take advantage of matching contributions and receive incentives (such as lapel pins).   • Researchers at Ohio University found that primary care providers in the region rarely prescribe medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder, forcing patients to seek specialists in rural areas.
