- ➤ Ohio University is breaking enrollment records even as Athens County faces a severe rental housing shortage. The rising number of students is straining the rental market + driving a demand for more housing options. The Athens Messenger
- ➤ Seventeen college students from five universities were selected for the paid WOUB News Summer Internship and will begin an 11-week program on May 19, finishing on August 1 with a $15 hourly stipend. - ➤ Heavy rain in Athens County has caused flooding and road closures, and officials urge residents to avoid driving through water and to move to higher ground—especially those who may need help. The National Weather Service forecasts the Hocking River will reach peak flood stage at 2 a.m. Monday morning, which could damage homes and businesses along West Union Street—prompting residents to contact local floodplain administrators if significant damage occurs.
