CULTURE NEWS

  • The 53rd Athens International Film and Video Festival will run from Monday, Apr. 13 to Sunday, Apr. 19 at multiple local venues. The week-long event will showcase films and community events (full schedule to come) as part of Athens’ spring arts celebration.  Athens County Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University administration and faculty met yesterday in Baker University Center Theater for its final University Updates session before fall. The meeting outlined the dynamic strategy (learn, discover, engage, work), current finances including the FY2026 budget, and state policy updates related to House Bill 698.  The Post
  • In March 2026, Ohio University honored John Kopchick and Aiden Payne as Faculty Newsmakers (their research focused on a new lung cancer treatment approach and on balance challenges linked to aging and Parkinson’s disease).  Ohio University
  • BattleCats, the club at Ohio University, meets every Monday at 6:15 p.m. in Stocker Hall (room 190) to build fighting robots that compete in fall and spring tournaments, with the next contest set for April 25.  The Post

  • Ohio University civil engineering professor Shad Sargand is leading a three-year study testing an epoxy-saturated fiberglass liner to reline aging underground pipes with less traffic disruption; the study reported on Thursday, Apr. 9 will evaluate the method’s durability and load capacity.  WOUB Public Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Athens City subcommittee is collecting tenant and landlord feedback via surveys through May 31 to improve rental unit safety, with 344 tenant and 180 landlord responses so far. A fall class will analyze the data for a final report due Dec. 1 + may help form a landlord resource network.  Athens County Independent

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A local cook shares an Italian-inspired ramp salsa verde recipe that blends ramps, lemon, olive oil, and capers into a versatile sauce for chicken, omelettes, or carrot sticks. The recipe recommends using both fresh and blanched ramps blended in a Vitamix (or blender) for a smooth finish.  Athens County Independent
