CULTURE NEWS

  • Athena Cinema hosted a late-night screening of the documentary 'The Shepherd and the Bear' on Wednesday to celebrate Earth Day and highlight biodiversity. Director Alex Kamody said the film shows how conservation challenges abroad can reflect local efforts.  The Athens Messenger

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Athens City School District has received a grant to adopt The Writing Revolution — a program set to boost students' writing skills. The district will begin introducing the new method in the upcoming school term.  The Athens Messenger

  • A U.S. Forest Service research station in McArthur (near Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest) is one of 57 under evaluation for closure as part of a national reorganization announced last March.
