🏛️ Government
Local organizations met in Glouster to discuss fears that proposed state and federal funding cuts threatened critical support programs in southeast Ohio — programs including SNAP, Medicaid, utility assistance, and housing trust funds.
Officials warned that these reductions could worsen food insecurity and strain healthcare services in communities such as Athens.
The Bulletin Board shows in-person public meetings in Athens and nearby communities scheduled from May 5—May 12.
Notices must be emailed by noon on Fridays and each listing provides time, location, and agenda details.
🏈 Sports
Ben Slanker, a sophomore at Ohio, improved his hitting after a tough freshman season and now leads the MAC with 17 home runs and 60 RBI as the season continues.
He credits extra training and help from coaches (JT Heenan and Canyon McWilliams) for building his confidence and breaking team records.
