EDUCATION NEWS

  • Greg Mehlman, a 2019 OHIO Eastern graduate, is the elementary principal for Shadyside Local School District and mentors teacher candidates through classroom partnerships (including mock interviews with 2025 education seniors). He earned degrees in early childhood education and educational leadership, and his work strengthens the future of local teaching careers.  Ohio University
  • The Trimble Board of Education voted 3-1 on Thursday evening not to cut additional teaching positions and approved cuts for three non-teaching roles. Financial concerns persist—an $11 million deficit is projected by 2029 with a state commission set to assume control on May 28 as a board vacancy is being filled.  WOUB Public Media

  • A bulletin board lists in-person public meetings set from May 19 to May 26 across Athens and nearby areas—today's schedule includes county and city meetings at local public buildings, and submissions must be sent by noon each Friday.
