  • The Athens Ohio Investment Alliance now works with TechGROWTH Ohio (and other local groups) to provide mentorship and funding for startups that will boost economic growth and job creation in our region. The alliance is evaluating investment deals that aim to attract outside capital and support a growing tech-based economy.  Ohio University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sophia Young, a journalism alumna from HTC, won first place in the inaugural Hearst Journalism Awards podcast competition — earning a $3,000 prize — for her investigative podcast on the troubled teen industry. Her achievement highlights the talent and training at Ohio University.  Ohio University
  • On Feb 14, eight student teams competed in the 2025 Leader Games at Ohio University in a Clue-inspired escape room designed to solve the case of a missing Bobcat statue. Only three teams solved all puzzles in 60 minutes—Team Canada won the challenge by finding the statue in Baker University Center while Professor Plaid was identified as responsible.  Ohio University

HEALTH NEWS

  • OhioHealth neurologist Douglas A. Woo explains that sudden stroke symptoms like slurred speech, vision problems, or loss of balance need quick care—early treatment can prevent lasting damage. He advises Athens residents to control blood pressure with good diet and avoid smoking to lower their risk.  Athens County Independent

  • After Ohio finished a 14-37 season and fired head coach Craig Moore, the university began searching for a new baseball skipper by focusing on in-house and regional candidates.   • Sedric Granger, a journalism graduate from Ohio University, will begin a media internship with the Frisco RoughRiders this summer to work on play by play calling, color commentary, interviews and social media coverage at select home games. He was selected by the MLB Voices Program and the Black Play by Play Grant Scholarship Fund to gain hands on experience and mentorship in sports broadcasting.  WOUB Public Media
