Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 27th of May.
Good morning, Athens.
🎓 Education
Ohio University students preparing for move-in are advised to pack essentials such as shower shoes, robes, hygiene products, and storage items to ease dorm living.
They are also encouraged to bring a power strip with USB ports, lamps, and a travel fan — details that help manage shared spaces and limited amenities.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect education as Athens students face ongoing reading gaps while math scores have improved since 2020.
Local teachers have adjusted lessons and adopted digital methods (nearly 40% report more student anxiety) to help students catch up.
Freshman commuters at Ohio University face unique challenges from off-campus travel and tight class schedules—advice for these students includes checking the campus parking map, planning extra transit time, and joining clubs with early or online meetings to feel more connected.
A senior commuter shared that finding favorite campus spots can also ease the adjustment during freshman year.
🏛️ Government
