- ➤ Tickets for the Bounty on the Bricks event have been on sale since Monday, June 1. The multi-course dinner fundraiser benefiting SE Ohio Foodbank takes place on Saturday, Aug. 8 on Court Street in Athens (early bird pricing ends June 5). Athens County Independent
- ➤ Recovery Connections of Southeast Ohio will wind down operations due to a lack of sustainable funding. The organization begins transitioning on June 1 and will close by June 30 while connecting participants with other local resources. Athens County Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bobcat Boutique operates in Room 120 in the Academic Building at Ohio University Southern to offer free attire for job interviews. Founded by Dr. Joy Shytle, it is open Mondays from 8 a.m. to noon and Tuesdays from 2 to 5 to serve students and community members. Ohio University
- ➤ Children ages 1 to 18 can get a free lunch at participating public libraries from June 1 to Aug. 7, with service available Monday to Friday during designated midday hours. The program is sponsored by Hocking Athens Perry Community Action Regional Food Center & the Ohio Department of Education. Athens County Independent
- ➤ Beginning Thursday, June 4 through July 30, families in need can pick up a week’s supply of peanut butter, jelly, and bread at the Alexander Schools front elementary parking lot from 10 a.m. to noon. - ➤ Alexander Junior/Senior High School released its 2025-26 fourth quarter honor roll for 6th- through 11th-grade students. - ➤ Ohio University will merge select degree programs in subjects such as geography, music, and theater this fall to comply with AOHEA requirements (pending state and higher commission approvals). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Athens City-County Health Department partners with local groups to offer a free healthcare event at Heritage Hall at Ohio University. - ➤ Ohio University professor Kevin Lee received a grant from the American Heart Association on Monday, June 1 to study how vaping and nicotine pouches may break down fat tissue into acids that could harm heart function + his research will pinpoint the molecular links between nicotine use and heart damage.
