- ➤ After a November cyber scam cost Athens $721,976, the city council reallocated funds to cover a $932,000 final payment for the new fire station — the extra costs include a parking lot, fitness court and green space. - ➤ Athens is weighing two options for the former Columbus Road fire station. The city leans toward turning it into storage + office space for the Major Crimes Unit and will remodel the living quarters to meet the unit’s needs. Athens County Independent
- ➤ On Tuesday, June 3, the White House asked Congress to claw back federal funding that makes up 25% (and 16% of indirect costs) of WOUB's budget, which puts the future of public media at risk. Lawmakers have 45 days to decide, and the House is expected to vote soon on whether to restore the funds. WOUB Public Media
- ➤ Representatives from the Ohio Emergency Management Agency visited southeast counties to inspect storm damage and assess if disaster relief funds may help fix Athens roads. The Athens County EMA submitted damage estimates and officials said repairs on Joneswood Drive — a key project — will begin regardless of additional state or federal funding, with more details expected later this month.
