  • Athens County maintenance staff cut tree limbs along the bike path June 9–13 plus Court Street will be closed Saturday, June 14 for Boogie on the Bricks, while Ohio Department of Transportation crews work on U.S. 33 and SR 7 resurfacing projects.   • Athens County Dog Warden Ryan Gillette said shelter workers have used a live trap near Taco Bell on East State Street for two months to capture Wilson— the stray dog known as 'Taco Bell dog'— so he can be adopted, and residents are urged not to feed him to keep him safe from traffic and parasites.  Athens County Independent

  • Athena Cinema celebrated its 110th birthday on Tuesday, June 10 with a party that featured a screening of Cinema Paradiso for a dime and shared memories from past showings. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Greg Shaw, a Kilburger Scholar, finished his master’s in biomedical engineering and is now pursuing his Ph.D. at Ohio University with support from the scholarship he received at OHIO Lancaster. He began his studies early through the Kids in College program + the scholarship helped him avoid student debt and follow his research dreams.  Ohio University
  • Ohio University students from regional campuses traveled to Panama through the GoGlobal program where they experienced hands-on learning at Jacaranda College — visits to the Panama Canal and an Embera Indigenous community deepened their cultural understanding. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The House Rules Committee met Tuesday, June 10 to consider H.R. 4 and passed a closed rule with no amendments—setting up a procedural vote for Wednesday morning on the rescission package affecting public media—and lawmakers are expected to hold a final vote on the bill later Wednesday or Thursday.
