EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University Libraries announced that it has launched Ex Libris Alma to simplify how the OHIO community finds books and articles — staff are helping faculty update links as old URLs are deactivated. OhioLINK requests and services from regional campuses will resume in late June. Ohio University
- ➤ Two Ohio University students, Kavanaugh Frank and Nathan Smith, were honored during the spring at the Ohio Space Grant Consortium Student Symposium held at the Ohio Aerospace Institute Headquarters as they shared a joint first place presentation award with peers. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appointed student trustee Ava Wood to the Ohio University Board of Trustees on May 2—she attended her first board meetings on June 12 and 13 and will serve until May 13. Wood is an environmental studies major who focuses on sustainability and environmental justice. Ohio University
- ➤ Officials announced that the former Russell’s Gas Station on Columbus Road will be converted into an electric vehicle charging station with four charging ports and community space. The project will begin cleaning up contamination as early as July—using a grant for site cleanup—part of a larger effort to boost EV access in Athens. WOUB Public Media
- ➤ Ohio could receive $198 million over 15 years from a settlement with Purdue Pharma that also will provide $7.4 billion for opioid crisis claims, and the funds will be managed by the OneOhio Recovery Foundation—composed exclusively of state officials, legislators, and community members—with local governments asked to join pending federal judge approval. The agreement marks the final major lawsuit resolution as Ohio continues to face opioid-related challenges. WOUB Public Media
