- ➤ During Spring 2025, graduate students from the Department of English completed community-based internships with local non-profits to support projects across Athens. - ➤ Ohio University’s AFROTC Detachment 650 earned three top awards and was rated effective during a headquarters inspection where two cadets were named superior performers & its cadets scored highest in leadership at field training among Ohio detachments. The program upgraded its training facilities, used new exercises like Airsoft scenarios and F45 workouts, and will continue to build on these successes to prepare future Air & Space Force officers. - ➤ Athens Mayor Patterson said he was shocked by proposed state changes that would cut the city’s share of marijuana tax revenue, with studies estimating about $350,000 lost from two dispensaries. Other southeast Ohio mayors expressed concern that the state budget would redirect these funds to cover state projects — reducing money available for local public safety and services.
