🎓 Education
Ohio University's Ceramics Program fired nine atmospheric kilns in Athens as part of The Atmospheric Conference, marking a historic event for local art makers.
The conference brought together 10 ceramic artists, students and experts who shared ideas and techniques — a rare chance to see the program’s unique kiln collection in action.
🌲 Environment
Copperhead snakes are the only venomous snake in Athens County and have copper-colored heads and brown hourglass patterns that help them blend in on rocky hillsides.
Experts advise people to admire them from a safe distance (bites are almost never fatal) and to seek hospital care if bitten.
🏥 Health
Athens County is facing a growing risk from tick bites that spread illnesses like Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and red meat allergies, as ticks increase each summer.
Local health officials and hospital doctors reported more tick-related visits and are tracking ticks with surveys while planning educational workshops (for teachers and students) to boost awareness.
