- ➤ Ohio residents can expect higher electric bills after last year's PJM auction saw capacity prices jump as grid operators worked to meet growing demand—experts said the price surge may lead to ongoing cost increases for households. The Athens Messenger
- ➤ Ohio’s sales tax holiday has been extended to two weeks and will begin at midnight Friday and run until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 14, exempting tangible personal property under $500 from state and local taxes. Items excluded from the exemption include watercraft, outboard motors, motor vehicles, alcohol, tobacco, vape products, and items containing marijuana (these products are not eligible for the tax break). - ➤ The Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District is planning to renovate the Sutton Road Recycling Center in Logan to create a center for hard-to-recycle materials with regular hours so residents can drop off household hazardous waste safely. The district will bring in partner companies for six-week pickups + is discussing new legislation that may require producers to help manage this waste. Athens County Independent
