  • Earlier this summer, Ohio University Environmental Studies graduate students Dupe Oluwasesan and Emily Fox attended the 42nd Annual Meeting of the American Society of Reclamation Sciences in Butte, Montana from June 1—5 where they presented research on wetland restoration and pollinator habitats. They earned awards for excellence and travel grants while building key professional connections for their future work.  Ohio University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A national report found that 62% of mayors list economic development as a top priority, and Athens Mayor Steve Patterson said housing is a key challenge for growth—using Tax Increment Financing to fund new infrastructure on green space. He added that federal ARPA funds will end next year and the region is facing a shortage of available local contractors.  WOUB Public Media
  • Nelsonville City Council voted Monday night to repeal Issue 23—a citizen initiative to change the city's form of government—citing an unclear transition plan that risked a December lapse in government. A former council member plans to sue the body, and candidates must now run as write-ins in November under the current charter.  WOUB Public Media
