EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio University began contract negotiations with its faculty earlier this month—some are concerned the university is once again delaying the process.  The Athens Messenger
  • Ohio University hosted an involvement fair on College Green on Sunday that brought over 300 student organizations together to help new and returning Bobcats find clubs that match their interests—ranging from academics to community service. Freshmen and other students connected in person and began building networks for the new school year.  The Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ohio University professor Jason Trembly received a top award for his work in clean engineering—he turns mining waste into useful carbon materials for energy and buildings. His ISEE team secured nearly $40 million in funding and gives students hands-on experience at the Russ Research Opportunity Center.  Ohio University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bulletin Board lists public meetings in Athens from August 25th through Labor Day, with sessions by local government groups like the City Council and County Commissioners. The list shows meeting times, locations, and options to join in person or by Zoom—helping residents plan their participation.  Athens County Independent
  • City of Athens launched a new TikTok page that on Aug.22 posted videos about local events and introduced an AI chatbot called Benny the Athens Brick on its website to help answer questions. Some community members raised concerns at an Aug.4 Council meeting about the bot’s subscription cost and its limited ability to provide city history — sparking debate over its role in government communications.  The Post

  • Local clothing shops help Ohio University students during move-in week in Athens.
