- ➤ Two Ohio University seniors received $5,000 scholarships from the Ohio EPA — the awards aim to support environmental studies at the university. The Athens Messenger
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Athens City Council is set to review a potential reward from opioid settlements — following Ohio's June announcement that it joined a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. Council members will decide next steps in light of this state action. The Athens Messenger
- ➤ The Ohio University Police Department will offer active aggressor training sessions this fall in Athens — the sessions are set for September and October during the fall semester. The Athens Messenger
- ➤ Beginning Sept. 30, anyone under 21 getting a driver's license must take driver's ed classes—Gov. Mike DeWine said the update will help make young drivers safer since training is already required for 16 and 17 year olds. The change aims to reduce repeated test failures and promote road safety.
