COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WOUB is launching its Cartober campaign this October to boost vehicle donations for local charitable support, with partner CARS handling all pick-up and paperwork — at no cost to donors — to streamline the process.  WOUB Public Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cabaret will open Thursday, October 23 at Stuart’s Opera House at 52 Public Square with a pre-show starting at 6:30 p.m. and performances set to begin at 7:30 p.m.—the production explores 1930s Berlin with themed cocktails, live lobby entertainment, and creative insights from director Devin Sudman and cast members Carter Rice, Sam Pelham, and Cam LaGraff.  WOUB Public Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio University’s online master’s in Geological Sciences trains professionals and educators in using modern digital tools such as GIS—drones and coding—to study the Earth safely and accurately. The flexible 30-credit program prepares graduates for growing jobs in exploration, energy, and environmental consulting.  Ohio University
  • Students in COMS 4050 at Ohio University are applying classroom lessons to plan three community events—designed in partnership with local groups—to build real-world skills in event planning and storytelling. Guided by Candice Rios Wenmoth, they will host a fundraiser called Recess at Jackie O’s Taproom on Nov. 8 and two story slams at Donkey Coffee on Nov. 21 and Dec. 5.  Ohio University
  • On September 10th, Ohio University enrollment grew by almost 4% when 8,195 new students joined across eight campuses + OHIO Online, making the freshman class the biggest ever seen; total enrollment now is over 30,000.  Ohio University
  • Today, Ohio University launched the Employee Innovation and Efficiency Awards Program for full-time faculty and staff to submit cost-saving and revenue-generating proposals, with winning ideas earning up to $1,000 for individuals or $2,000 for teams. The program (aimed at enhancing financial stability amid rising costs) will be reviewed by a committee including the Office of the President.  Ohio University

  • A bulletin board lists local public meetings scheduled from Oct 6 to Oct 13 with details like times, places, and topics for groups like city councils, township boards, and school boards & other local committees.
