BUSINESS NEWS

  • State lawmakers are reviewing Senate Bill 56 to regulate hemp products after Gov. DeWine banned intoxicating hemp on October 24—though a judge later blocked the ban, local business owners like Josh Crosier of Appalachian Girls and the co-owner of Silver Serpent in Athens said the new rules will force changes by limiting sales to adults and requiring licensed dispensaries. The bill, which also includes new taxes on hemp beverages, could transform how these products are sold statewide.  WOUB Public Media

  • Scowl singer Kat Moss said the new album Are We All Angels? mixes soft and hard sounds to push her vocals to new levels—she added that the band will join Sunami on a fall tour.  WOUB Public Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio University is launching Bobcats Help Bobcats to give every student a chance to meet alumni mentors starting with a one-credit course for first-year students in spring 2026 — the program will also include meal sessions and one-on-one match days for upperclassmen to boost career and life skills. Alumni can join through the online form and first-year students should talk to their academic advisors to register.  Ohio University
  • Ohio University is celebrating International Education Week — a focus on global workforce readiness — from Nov. 13–21, 2025. Nominations for the Awards for Excellence in Global Engagement — recognizing outstanding global efforts — are accepted through Nov. 3, and winners will be honored at a dinner on Nov. 16.  Ohio University
  • Kayla Payne, a junior at Scripps College of Communication, won the 2025 T-shirt design contest and her design will give faculty and staff a new look; over 2,000 students submitted designs to show their pride for the college.  Ohio University
