CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Athens will host the 11th annual Athena Award ceremony on November 5 (5 p.m. to 6 p.m.) at the Athens Community Center to honor disability advocates who have improved community life. The free event, presented by Mayor Steve Patterson and the Athens City Commission on Disabilities, will feature a performance by the Athens County Community Singers and provide heavy hors d'oeuvres and sign language interpretation.  WOUB Public Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Centrus Energy announced a multi-billion-dollar expansion at its uranium enrichment facility in Piketon that will add 1,000 construction and 300 operations jobs in southern Ohio while keeping 127 current jobs. University leaders, state officials and local partners praised the project—saying it is a key part of turning the PORTS site into a clean energy and manufacturing hub.  Ohio University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio University is offering a fall course that studies ghosts, demonology, and paranormal themes in world religions. Taught by Brian Collins, the course—originally a small summer session in 2017—has grown to enroll up to 200 online students.  Ohio University
