- ➤ Athens County is honoring veterans with free events and discounts this week leading up to Veterans Day on November 11. The schedule includes a parade starting at 11 a.m. and other gatherings from November 9 to November 13 while local restaurants offer benefits (proof of service is required). Athens County Independent
- ➤ Nelsonville Community Dinners revived a heritage of shared meals and now expects more attendees this winter during Sunday dinners from 5—8 p.m. led by Jolene Aili Mckee and Simon Jacob Rutter, who are working to secure new host sites and community support amid rising food needs. - ➤ Athens County leaders urge neighbors to support local food pantries through donations and volunteer work as food insecurity grows amid reduced SNAP benefits and economic uncertainty. - ➤ Boston Brass will perform with the OHIO Wind Symphony at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium as part of the OHIO Performing Arts and Concert Series. The group will hold a master class with School of Music brass students the day before (Nov. 16) and will join the Wind Symphony for a combined performance featuring Malaguena. Ohio University

- ➤ Ohio University Assistant Professor Christian Drischler will lead a Science Café presentation on Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. in the Baker University Center Front Room — he will discuss 'The Strong Force Awakens: A Neutron Star Story' and all OHIO community members are invited to attend in person or watch the live stream. - ➤ Due to a severe outbreak of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease that cut deer checks in Athens County, the Ohio Wildlife Council will vote on reducing the bag limit at its 6 p.m. meeting Wednesday, Nov. 12—changes set to take effect Dec. 1 before peak gun season. - ➤ At a recent meeting, Athens City Council heard residents debate a zoning variance to allow three Conestoga Huts as temporary housing at The Gathering Place.
