COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Athens residents joined a free two-hour Create to Donate event at Dairy Barn Arts Center on Dairy Lane where they learned to hand-shape and glaze clay bowls for donation to local groups. Chip Wagner led the session and Columbus Clay provided the supplies—highlighting the center’s support for local art and community needs.  The Post
  • Free Thanksgiving meals will be offered in Athens County over the next few days — today a dinner at Trimble High School cafeteria from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday a meal at Black Panthers Legacy and United Campus Ministry in Athens starting at 5 p.m., and on Thanksgiving Day free dinners at Kiser’s Barbecue, The Plains VFW Post and Tavolino’s. Paid dining options at Cutler’s Restaurant and Mitzi Lou’s are also available through November 29.  Athens County Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Taproot Collective has been open for six weeks at 14 W. Stimson Ave and offers local plants, candles, and art curated by owner Julie Penland Dykstra—who also works at Purple Chopstix—to support local growers and artists. The shop will hold its official grand opening Dec. 2 and uses natural recycled materials to create vibrant displays for the community.  The Post
  • Dirty Girl Coffee in Glouster is a woman-owned business that empowers women + supports local projects while serving craft-roasted beverages for over ten years. The shop at 82 High St. is open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on weekends 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with its coffee products also available at local Athens venues.  The Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District will take over SORT operations—preserving essential waste management and recycling services in Athens County. The district will manage and improve operations in the Southeast region to ensure continued infrastructure support.  The Athens Messenger

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ohio Volleyball ended their season with a 3-1 loss to Bowling Green on November 23rd at the MAC Tournament held at the Stroh Center. Bowling Green used strong serves and kills—overcoming Ohio’s errors to clinch three sets and leave the young team with lessons for next season.  WOUB Public Media
  • The Sports editorial team released its weekly poll that ranks top college football teams with Ohio State at number one and Indiana, Texas A&M, Georgia and Oregon in the top five—teams such as Georgia Tech, Illinois and Missouri were dropped while Tennessee, Pittsburgh and Tulane were added.  The Post
