- ➤ Owners of Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill announced on Monday that the restaurant will close permanently in the spring. The diner served as a local meeting spot for nearly a decade and its farewell message on Facebook prompted heartfelt responses+ many patrons shared memories of its warm community feel. - ➤ Renowned saxophonist Kenny G will perform his holiday show at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium in Athens — he will play familiar tunes and iconic hits for a diverse audience. Ohio University

- ➤ Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service was honored with the 2025 Aliceann Wohlbruck Impact Award for its Appalachia Ohio Regional GIS Collaborative project that uses mapping data to help local leaders improve jobs, housing, and broadband. The award, given at NADO’s Annual Training Conference in October, reflects strong regional partnerships — a boost to efforts in Appalachian Ohio. Ohio University
- ➤ Athena Cinema received a $7,500 Science on Screen grant as part of a nationwide effort to promote science education through film — the grant will support the cinema’s plan to offer more educational film screenings to the local community. The Athens Messenger

- ➤ Athens identified two adjoining parcels in its East neighborhood along Hudson Avenue for affordable housing using seed money from a $2 million Welcome Home Ohio state grant — up to eight homes may be built. A local developer will purchase the Red Cross parcel while the city retains ownership during construction and sell the homes below market price to eligible buyers who must live in them for a set period. - ➤ Officials announced several updates on roads and community services that will affect travel and local safety. The Ohio Department of Transportation said work on the U.S. 33 roundabout will finish on Nov 28th and reduced-collision U-turn work on U.S. 50 will complete on Nov 30th — other projects include a U.S. 33 expansion finishing in 2028, a six-month closure of the Hebbardsville Road bridge, a Chauncey sewer line project ending on Jan 9th, 2026, and Christmas basket applications available Nov 28th–Dec 6th with deliveries on Dec 20th while the Village of Albany warned residents of a door-to-door electric scam.
