ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A new ODNR report shows that in 2024 four mines in Athens County produced coal, sand and gravel, and clay. The Johnson Run Coal Mine produced nearly 59,000 tons of coal while industrial operations along the Hocking River provided key local revenue. Athens County Independent

- ➤ Ohio University will enhance its cybersecurity curriculum using a $100,000 NIST grant to integrate the NIST standards into seven courses. The program, involving industry partners (Ohio Governor’s Cybersecurity Office, AEP, Progressive Insurance, and KeyBank), is set to serve as a global model for cybersecurity education. - ➤ NAMI Athens received a $1.125 million state grant to build a new community mental health hub that will expand local support services in areas with few professionals.
