  • The Gathering Place and United Campus Ministries have partnered to run a winter emergency warming center at UCM's building at 18 N. College Street. Guests will receive overnight shelter, dinner, breakfast, and limited pet space, with social media alerts posted a day before any extreme cold.  Athens County Independent

  • Nelson Cruz, an OHIO alumnus, serves as the digital marketing director at the Entertainment Software Association in Washington, D.C. and was named among Hispanic Executive’s 30 Under 30 honorees (recognizing his role in promoting community change through gaming).  Ohio University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scripps College of Communication has engaged alumni across generations through a dual advisory council system. The Dean's Advisory Council and the Young Alumni Council meet regularly to shape academic programs and support career development in emerging communication fields.  Ohio University
  • Two Athens band directors will perform with the Band Directors Marching Band at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena on Jan. 1. They were chosen to showcase local school music programs at this nationally recognized event.  The Athens Messenger
  • Jeff Kuhn of Ohio University is sharing his expertise in artificial intelligence and esports through programs in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Mongolia. He plans to visit Ukraine next to learn how educators are adapting during conflict + to boost digital learning worldwide.  Ohio University

  • After several years of service by the Southeast Ohio Recycling Terminal, the City of Nelsonville is opening a bidding process for a new trash and recycling contract (details are forthcoming). Local companies may submit proposals as the city seeks a change.  The Athens Messenger
