  • Public meetings are scheduled from June 16 through June 23 in Athens and nearby areas, including sessions for county bodies, city councils, and other boards. Meeting organizers request that notices be sent to [email protected] by noon on Fridays (all meetings are in-person unless noted) (schedules may change).  Athens County Independent
  • Athens County officials said that after years of overcrowding, the inmate count at the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail has declined — a change that could reduce state funding and strain local budgets. They will review the impact on county services — and may introduce measures to address the shortfall — in the coming months.  The Athens Messenger
