Athens City Council held first reading Monday night of Ordinance 107-26, which would extend the city's refuse contract with Rumpke for up to $2.6 million per year. The current contract expires June 30, 2027, and the city administration favors a two-year extension because there would be no cost increases to customers. Athens County Independent

Sylvia Plath, the Queen of Jacksonville, is the Cat of the Week at the Athens County Independent, and she'd like you to know her opinion is the one that matters. She'll put up with the kittens she lives with, but she's a look-but-don't-touch kind of lady. No appeals, no negotiations. Long live the queen.
